I need sun!
Hi guys,
Once again, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I have just been rather down and lethargic and writer’s blocky. The lack of sunlight really does suck. Looking back on my chapter writing I see that apart from the first November (when I had just started writing) I am woeful at writing during this time of year. So sorry I have been absentee yet again. The three day posting rule fell apart a bit but I am planning to restore it when my energy comes back. It is snowing now so it will be a bit lighter and prettier.
And I am feeling a bit excited and inspired again though. One of my photos on flickr is going to be published in the Insight Guide to Cracow! And I mentioned to the contact there that I am interested in travel writing and after taking a quick look at my travel blog said that it was worth a shot to send along some examples of my travel writing that he would forward to the Editorial Department for me. Now, I am not delusional. I know that most likely they will not be interested. And of course I still have a PhD to finish! But still… it feels like a door and it has given me the hope that maybe there will be more opening and there is a chance I can actually do the thing I love (well the other thing… I am not forgetting you Geology my first love).
So once again… big apologies. But I will be back on track once I get this travel writing together and sent. I feel happy again. And Christmas is coming so I will get a bit of a break and more writing time. And cookies.
If you are interested at all and want to check out my other blog, my travel blog, with sparkles (which definitely doesn’t get as much of my attention as Mhalwae does, but I post there occasionally) it is here.
And just to keep you interested here is a sneak preview from a few chapters away…

Eeeeeee! How exciting! Did they just randomly find your picture on Flickr? Even if nothing comes from this particular contact, it is still a A SIGN. I will cross my fingers and hold my thumbs for you in hopes of a nibble though.
OMG ZOMBIE WOLVERINE NINJAS! That is quite a shocking preview. And my first reaction when I saw the other dude’s marled gray sleeve was that it was one of my Scots, so KILTED ZOMBIE-NINJA FIGHTERS was what I got out of it!
The residents of Mhalwae are in soooo much trouble either way…
Ooooh, that’s so exciting about the picture and your travel blog! Congratulations about the picture, and here’s hoping the editorial department likes your travel blog. I know next to nothing about non-fiction (in fact, I don’t even know all that much about fiction), but I’m just skimming over your most recent entry there and I don’t see why they wouldn’t like it. It’s informative and descriptive while still obviously written by an actual person who’s writing and traveling for pleasure rather than profit. I shall be crossing my fingers for you
I was definitely not expecting ninjas on Mhalwae. Or Zombies. Or X-Men. Needless to say, I was quite surprised to see all three in one there. I can’t wait to see how these guys are going to show up and what Lochan and Co. are going to do about them
..Do they have anything to do with Mara, or is that spoiler territory? And is that particular sim a male or a female? That mesh is a little ambiguous, or maybe I’m just totally off the charts today.
Wow! Congrats on the picture and traveling!
I’m so happy for you!
I miss the sun to. I’m in a sort of exam period/lack of sun depression, but at least now it’s December and x-mas decorations and candles and cosiness all around. And my last exam is friday, and then I’m sort of free except I have loads of project assignments I need to do some time. But things are looking up
Awesome preview!
Congratulations, Verity! That is SO awesome.
I don’t know about travel writing, but I sure wouldn’t mind being paid to travel and take pictures, LOL!
Writer’s block happens. Take your time.
Hi guys, sorry for not replying sooner.
They did, in fact just randomly find my picture on flickr. It is kind of cool like that actually. I have had about six pictures of mine they used on Schmap, a free online guidebook and another time a guy asked if they could use my picture of Lindow man (a bog body… I know it is weird, but I studied them at school so I was kind of interested to find him at the British museum) in a Discovery Channel documentary about human sacrifice. They were going to pay me $100 (not much but still… pretty cool for doing pretty much nothing) if they used it. That was a while ago though and I haven’t heard back so I assume they decided not to use it. But that’s fine, because it has given me a boost, seeing that there are people out there who might actually pay for my work. It all does feel like a sign, like this is doable maybe (when I am Doctor Verity
).
It is a pretty exciting preview! And it is coming… in like, 2 or 3 chapters (I haven’t quite decided if I am going to squeeze something in there). It will be more explained in that chapter, what it actually is. I can’t answer any questions about Mara at the moment, but we will gradually find out more and more about her. I totally love her already even though I haven’t written her POV yet and I think you guys will too.
Thank goodness for the Christmas lights Sofie. And Christmas. I have eaten myself into a stupor and feel much better now
.
I so wish there was some way to get over writer’s block easily Mao. It happens to me so often and in such a big way. Whenever things get kind of feh in my life I just can’t do anything.
