Valeriya really has no ill will whatsoever towards Harndall. She doesn't believe that rape was a possible option, though she could believe that she might have consented to something when she was kind of out of it. She doesn't consider that to be rape thought. Basically she doesn't think Harndall raped her or would ever do anything to hurt her. She trusts him a great deal. The dream did indeed occur about 9 months before Hannah entered the world. Man, that would suck. Imagine being stuck with some guy's kid because you kissed him at the school dance. Ugh. You'd really think twice about who you held hands with. So she thought it did happen, and that was more or less consensual. But it seems like she must have had serious suspicions that it was a dream, if she went straight from "But you were there…" to "or you were a dream." The poor thing must realize her thoughts were completely addled at that time. I wonder if she also thinks that maybe it did happen but since she was so out of it, it counts as a sort of rape. Did she have any ill will against him before this meeting? I think I asked this before, but did that dream of sex / meeting of prayer occur at the appropriate moment for the conception of the baby? (I suppose it did since people conclude that the priest's 1 hour visit led to the baby.) But if it's so then perhaps something was "transferred" from him to her at that time, thanks to some sort of magic. And if so... creepy! I think I asked this before, but did that dream of sex / meeting of prayer occur at the appropriate moment for the conception of the baby? (I suppose it did since people conclude that the priest’s 1 hour visit led to the baby.) What you are seeing here is two devout people struggling to explain the presence of Hannah in the best way they know how. That is not to say they are wrong :) we'll just have to see. Valeriya is sort of raising the baby. She isn't being kept under lock and key, she is free to come and go as she wants (though you are right, Radomir definitely does not know she is visiting Harndall... she timed it to make sure he wouldn't. This is also one of the reasons she has not come to see him earlier. It has already been about a month since she stood before the court and confessed). In truth most eyes are turned towards Radomir and what his response will be. Not much so far. He has been pretty much locked in his room unless required for something for the last month.
