Hepsie gets a birthday present
Steen gently uncovered Hepsie’s eyes, “Alright my loverly pudding… you can open em’ eyes now if yer like”.
Hepsie stood blinking in the warm Autumn light for a minute, until her eyes focused on the structure standing before her. It took her a moment to comprehend why Steen had brought her here and what it was she was looking at.
When she did understand she could barely contain her excitment, her little fists clenching, a smile growing across her entire face. Steen was pleased to notice she was almost jumping up and down so great was her enthusiasm. This was exactly the response he had hoped for during the long hours of planning and building.
“Steen!”, she turned to him with a squeal her arms flapping like a baby bird taking its first flight, “Is this fer us… is it ours?! Did you make it? How did you do it? When did you do it?”
“Hush my love, you should be asking me one question at a time, lest my poor big head be getting confused”, he grinned wildly at her.
“Okay, okay… I be asking one question at time then… is it ours?”, she asked, her beautiful eye wide with wonder.
“Yes me love, it be all our own, though t’isn’t very much yet… only three walls and a hole for the door”.
“But Steen… you built it in me favourite place… how did you know I loved it so here?”
“Well I guess a little blind birdy you know very well, told me yer secret place so I spoke to the Baron and he said we could build our own little farm here… so this be the beginning of it… our own farm”, he was smiling so widely now his face was hurting, but he didn’t mind.
“Okay… second question then… how did you get the time to build this here house, or the start of it anyways? I thought you had been busy all the time building the new church, ‘specially with Sir Arwaduhn ill like he has been? And how did I not find out about this, you cheeky squirrel”.
Her skin was glowing a soft brown in the warm, diffracted light. Her plump lips were looking exceedingly kissable Steen thought but he would answer her question and then steal a kiss.
“Well you’ve been so busy wiv all the poor women and their lost babies, that you’ve barely been knowing at all where I’m going these days. I only see you when you come crawling into our bed at night. Which gave me and Noah the perfect opportunity to come out here in the forest and build this here fine building”, he grinned again, chuckling slightly at his joke, “Reminds me I’ve promised to help Noah wiv his but he said he din’t mind starting wiv mine since it was being your birthday so soon and I wanted ta suprise you. But I guess now that Gena’s expecting we’re going to need to be hurrying on that their house of his and postponing our’s for now if you don’t mind”.
His little wife was staring up at him, her face glowing with affection and joy, “Of course I don’t mind you silly donkey… we have to be getting shelter over that wee babe that’s comings dear little head don’t we… I don’t think it will be fitting so well in their tiny cabin on the ship”.
He felt so happy he thought he would burst. He was a very lucky man indeed to have such a fine little wife, who loved him and he loved so much sometimes it hurt.
He put a hand on her waist guiding her gently to the mossy grove behind the beginnings of their house. She plopped down ungraciously between his legs, sighing with happiness.
“This is my favourite place Steen, right here amongst the beautiful flowers”.
Steen mumbled agreeably, stroking her tiny waist with his big, calloused hands.
“I’m so happy love, this is the best birthday I ever have had!”, she continued prattling on about what they would do with the house, and where she would plant her garden but all Steen could focus on was the scent of her hair and the soft skin on the back of her neck.
He kissed it gently, thinking to himself that God had surely made that spot, the nape of her neck just slightly covered with downy hair, precisely for this purpose.
They sat their in the cool shade of the trees for a long time, watching brightly coloured leaves twirling gently in the breeze and planning their new home. The shadows began to grow long as the sun sank slowly towards the horizon. Then they had to go back to the ships then, back to the sorrow that seemed to hang over them like a dark cloud.
They stood, Steen gently picking twigs from Hepsie’s hair. He wrapped her in has arms and kissed her on the nose, there among her flowers and the golden-brown Autumn leaves.
“Can we go inside Steen?”, she asked softly.
“Of course”, he gently laughed, “although inside isn’t being very big just yet”.
She smiled at him and he took her tiny hand in his and led her into what was to be their very own house.
So guys… I thought I had been writing too many depressing posts lately… here’s one that will hopefully cheer you up
Hepsie is looking very different now but I am really happy with how she looks… I also changed their heights. The Hepsie change is going to cause me some problems though since I had already taken some pics for a story that is going to happen fairly soon… haven’t decided if I will retake them or if you guys are just going to have to pretend with me.

I love the way they talk… I’m not so good at peasant dialect. My Cumbrian peasants always talk like they grew up in West Virginia. “Inside isn’t being very big just yet” says he!
Is Hepsie wearing a new default skin, or is did you change it in SimPE? Do you know what skin it is? They look like lips from a Louis skin. I am still bothered by my default Tan skin and would like to change Gunnilda, Wynna, and some of the others who have it into something lighter. That one would look quite nice on Gunnilda I think.
Don’t bother retaking pictures, I say. That will waste time that you could be spending taking pictures for new chapters. We want to know what happened to Cordell! How could you leave us hanging?
Not that this was not a perfectly adorable post! I just hope it isn’t intended to mollify us prior to some Cordell-based tragedy you have coming up.
I have to admit they way they speak doesn’t have any method to it at all which is a pretty bad idea. I kind of just come up with it as I go along
I like the way your peasants speak Lothere… the way Gunnie is always saying “well I guess…”.
I actually took your advice and got some better defaults… but they are the same as you have… the Louis #7 versions. Hepsie is wearing the dark tan one. But I put some rosy cheeks on her and some freckles… maybe a bit of face powder too… can’t quite remember off the top of my head.
Sorry about leaving you hanging about Cordell and Lisbet… I promise you will hear about them soon
Wow, OK… so are you not using the Gunmod lighting mod? Maybe that is why she’s looking so golden to me instead of brown like poor Gunnilda.
Are those leaves I see floating in the air there? Does the light change color according the season? Are those neighborhood trees I see back there changing color?
Gah! *bites nails* I have Seasons and Pets both now, but I can’t bring myself to install them! Even if my neighborhood survives, which I assume it would, I am afraid my apparent “bug” that allows me to get decent graphics with ultra-low-end hardware will simply go away. And then I will either have to buy a proper $200 video card (try explaining that to my husband), or uninstall everything.
Do you have OFB? I have it but have never installed that yet either. The only thing that has ever interested me in it is the building tools, especially the raised “foundation” dais inside a house, which I would love to have for my churches and medieval halls. I am wondering whether that feature also comes with later EP’s. If so, I won’t bother installing OFB at all. If I ever work up the nerve to install anything.

Actually now that I think about it the lighting is different in seasons. Especially in Autumn. It gives the whole thing a much more golden tone. I’m not sure how good Hepsie is going to look inside at night though. Garrick’s nightmare is also shot in Autumn lighting but there it is raining so it is a bit bluer light in some pics.
Yes they are leaves… and the light does change according to season. At least for Autumn it is really different… that golden colour. Summer seems to just be bright and sunny and I guess Winter has a sort of cooler light but I am not really good at telling the difference. Not sure about Spring yet though. And the neighbourhood trees and all the trees on your lot change colour for Autumn!
Also there definitely is an aspiration reward which lets you control the weather. It lets you make it rain, snow or hail. Apparantely if you use it with a low aspiration it rains cats and dogs or something like that but I haven’t tried it yet.
I have OFB also… I’m not sure if those features come with later EPs but I am guessing probably not. Other than that OFB isn’t that useful for storytelling… it is quite fun to play though although it would seem I would make a bad shopowner. Has anyone else got pets and seasons installed but no OFB? Do you still get those building features?
I always get so scared installing new stuff but seasons is really cool. In my opinion the best EP yet. Especially for storytelling. But of course there is the risk of breakage… but if you back up everything really well then it will probably be okay and if it goes bad at least you can reinstall everything again (actually I should probably say I have had to do this pretty much everytime I get a new EP because something clashes… also I had a problem with one of the patches crashing my game). Pets is cool too… I am going to be introducing some more animals into my story at some stage.
I honestly don’t know what you should do… if it was me I would backup like crazy and install anyway but my Kingdom is definitely not as built up as yours and if absolute worst came to worst I could try and rebuild. I honestly would probably do it anyway because I am so addicted to the new features of EPs but it is a tough choice to make.
Just remembered that Cindra’s happy post was shot in summertime light so you can see it is sort of like the more normal light.
The last post where Cordell wakes up was shot in summertime lighting with rain. So the rain seems to give a bluer colour to the light in general.
Ooops… and I forgot to say in the last comment that I do have Gunmod’s lighting mod installed (after finally getting the guts to do it again after it caused a heap of bugs the first time… seems to be working fine now tho… different computer, different setup).

Great update! I’m glad someone on this island is happy! Hehehe, I bet they’re super excited about their very own house. I can’t wait to see them fill it up with babies!
I know… I want them to have babies too… they are so cute and I bet they will have super-cute babies!
