Morven is disturbed

Sitting through a church service was a trial even at the best of times, but it was made a million times worse by the embarrassment of sitting through it with her husband.

She tried to ignore her husband

Morven stared straight ahead trying desperately to ignore the fidgeting of her wayward husband. It was almost impossible for Alexis to sit still for five minutes, and there was absolutely no way it was going to happen for two hours.

It was impossible for Alexis to sit still

She sighed softly in irritation as he began to drum out a tune on his thighs, a noise she was sure was loud enough for the whole congregation to hear.

He began to drum out a tune on his thighs

She sharply turned to glare at him, in an attempt to make him stop with her evident scorn. She was bored too but one wouldn’t find her fidgeting. She had already read the bible ten times, and knew the story Father Harndall was reciting back to front. Actually she wished she could discuss with him her thoughts on it, but unfortunately this was not befitting of a woman as she had been reminded on several occasions when she opened her mouth with an opinion.

She sharply turned to glare at him

He pointed to himself with a look of mock atonishment as if to say “Me, are you angry at me”. She had to laugh, albeit a very quiet chuckle. Suddenly rather than an embarassment she felt as though she had an ally against the monotony.

He pointed to himself with a look of mock astonishment

To show that she was not angry anymore she very quietly drummed on her thighs too, hoping the father would not notice.

She quietly drummed on her thighs too

But when she looked up he was deeply engrossed in reciting the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, and seemed oblivious to all, caught up in a religious fervour.

He was deeply engrossed in reciting the story of Lazarus

She had to admit he was a lot more interesting than most priests and he had the added advantage of being young and easy to look at. That definitely made the time pass a little quicker. Also, his evident enthusiasm was often contagious and the people generally enjoyed his sermons far more than they supposed they ought to.

Her train of thought was abruptly interrupted by a strangled sob to the left of her. She carefully looked sideways and saw that the noise had come from Sister Mella who was now wearing a look of utter terror on her face.

Sister Mella was now wearing a look of utter terror

She saw that Lisbet, sitting on the same pew as the nun, was doing her utmost best to stare fixedly ahead and ignore what was going on beside her.

Lisbet was doing her utmost best to stare straight ahead

The nun suddenly made a low growling noise loud enough for those around her to hear.

From the corner of her eye, Morven could see the Sister’s outburst was apparently directed at Lisbet, but she did not think Lisbet had said something that could provoke such a response.

She did not think Lisbet had provoked her

She noticed a number of people in the pews in front of her, stiffen and sit up straighter. They had obviously noticed that something strange was going on behind them, and were chosing to ignore it.

She noticed a number of people stiffen

Father Harndall had stopped speaking and was staring to the back of the room, an expression of sorrow on his face.

Harndall had lost his train of thought

“STOP!!!!”, the Nun suddenly cried, to the astonishment of everyone in the room.

It was well-known that Sister Mella had not spoken a word since the invasion.

She then began making guttural sobbing noise that did not resemble any speech Morven had ever heard.

Stop the nun cried

She could not help but stare at the raving woman, even though she knew it was very rude.

Morven could not help but stare

Suddenly the Mella stopped ranting at her unseen antagonist and stared directly at Morven. Morven shuddered and chills ran up and down her spine. The nuns eyes were so vacant and cold, devoid of emotion. Morven quickly turned away to remove herself from the Sister’s empty gaze.

A shudder went down Morven's spine

A greater disturbance at the front of the makeshift church caused her to rise hurriedly out of her chair, as the room was pierced by a woman’s shriek of pain.

There was a greater disturbance at the front of the room

She saw Lochan looking at his wife in horror and rising out of his seat as she began to slip off the pew.

She saw Lochan looking at his wife in horror

She moaned in agony and clutched her scrawny belly, falling to her knees on the wooden floor with a thud. Her face was contorted, the grimace only enhancing her already macabre appearance.

Enhancing her already macabre appearance

She curled up in a ball, sobbing in anguish, her tiny hands grasping at her stomach as her distressed husband rushed to her aid.

Sobbing in anguish as her tiny hands grasped her stomach

Morven heard a hysterical laugh from behind her and turned to see, to her horror, Mella, a look of abandoned glee on her face. Morven was close enough to hear her panting breath whistling between her clenched teeth, and see the whites of her eyes as they rolled madly around.

A look of abandoned glee on her face

Oh, wow! What a thing to happen and at church, too. Very interesting, Verity. I really can’t wait to see what’s happened here…

Hi. whoa!. is Mella posessed by an evil sprit or is she going crazy over her nightmares?. If it’s the first one then there goes the idea that evil can’t enter a church!.

cool story I’m really interested to see what happens next.

    Keep Simming

    See ya

Oh no! We can guess what just happened to poor Isaura, and we can see by whose influence. I’ve always felt so sorry for Mella but it’s hard to feel that in this chapter, with her weird stares and her cackling. Even though I’m sure it’s not her fault. (Possessed by a demon maybe?)

She was looking around at a lot of women, too. I hope there won’t be further consequences.

You have some great pictures of facial expressions in this chapter. Did you take the pictures first and write the chapter around them?

I loved the exchange between Morven and her husband. They’re so cute together. That first picture is perfect, with his crossed ankles! :-D Alred does that all the time — one of those adorable unexpected Sim gestures.

    Hi guys!

I guess I should first of all say, that techically it isn’t a church. At the moment they are still all living on the ships as building is taking place. So basically this is just a big room on one of the ships.

I did take the pictures first and then write around them Lothere. I started the other way round, but as we all know, the stories just write themselves if you take the pics first. I wasn’t sure how I was going to do this scene… all I knew was that I wanted Mella to be a little weird at a church service. The rest of it wrote itself =). I love the crossed ankles too! How typical is it of Alexis to do that in a church service (and how like Alred too).

Omg! What is happening to these people? Lol, it’s gotta be the island. Whatever is in the deep hole…or caused it…is evil and infecting all their minds! They’re all going to go crazy and kill each other! Hehe, very intense update Verity! I’m on the edge of my seat!

My boyfriend keeps comparing Mhalwae to Lost… all the not knowing what is going on and weird things happening. I don’t know if any of you watch that show (we have actually grown so fed up with nothing ever happening that we don’t watch it very often anymore… I hope you guys won’t get fed up though :) or I will be very sad :(

  7. Tiana says:

Oh Lost! I watch that show all the time, and your setting does remind me of it a bit. Whenever me and my friend watch Lost and someone calls us and asks us what were doing we say, “I don’t know…I’m so lost right now”. Cracks us up. But Isuara collapsing on the floor doesn’t crack me up! I hope she is ok! What is Mella’s issue? Possession, craziness, evil island granted power…hmmm, I’m almost caught up, I have to keep going!

*shivers* What a creepy chapter. Even creepier than Mella’s flashback to the Abbey.

Hi Lisa! Welcome to Mhalwae and I am so sorry for not responding to your numerous awesome comments. I really love getting comments so sorry if you felt it ignored… I will be replying to the rest of them soon but I hadn’t anticipated things being so crazy-busy for me visiting back home. I don’t think I am going to get much time till I head back to Sweden but then Mhalwae will be getting some much-deserved attention. So hang in there! There will be more story really soon… I’m back in Sweden on the 21st.
