Sir and Lady Arwaduhn
Oh how Cordell hated his wife Lisbet. How could it be that he was saddled to that woman for the rest of his life. He could not believe that his father had forced him to marry such a girl. Surely she had the tongue of a serpent. And she looked so ugly when she fought with him which was most of the time. How it made him laugh when she scrunched up her face into an ugly little ball and cursed him. What a harridan she was, and she swore like a sailor. His father, rest his soul had chosen very poorly indeed and now they travelled to Mhalwae together where there was no hope that he would not spend most of his days with her. Curse his poor luck that had sent him to a place like this with Lisbet.
Lisbet was equally unimpressed with Cordell. She had hated him from the first moment her mother spoke of him. She had dreamed of true love with a man whom she chose, little suspecting that her mother was making deals behind her back. And now she was to be stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere with Cordell, surely things could not go more wrong. At least there had been no children, otherwise they might not have been able to make the long sea voyage and may have been put to death. There would be no children. She would not share her bed with that man. The only time they had even slept in the same room was their wedding night when she had made him sleep on the floor. She had sworn when her father told her she was to be married she would not let him touch her. She would rather be a nun.
She stood next to him now in a brief moment of calm, as they looked out at the island on the dark horizon and without realising leaned a little closer to him.

Hi, Verity! Just got caught up reading about your families so far. I love the story you’re building here and the history of the inhabitants. I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds!
Whoa! It’s nice to see another family with… ‘issues’. These tend to be more the drama laden ones. I really like how you’re taking the time to do a little introductory thing past “this is so and so, they’re whatever class”. It helps us get a feel for the characters themselves.
Hi guys… first of all Shana, it’s really great to have you reading as well =) I am so excited that so many of the people whose blogs I love are stopping by =). So thanks to everyone who has had a look at Mhalwae so far.
I hope you guys don’t think it is going to slow with the whole introductions bit. I have a few families to go before I start posting the actual story, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew a bit about all the characters before I get into it.
I like the format, too–how they all react to the island in different ways.
Two passionate people like that stranded on a deserted island… I think it won’t be long before they are the most devoted couple in the neighborhood. They simply need to figure out that the best part of fighting is the making up afterwards.
I really like the way you are introducing us to the couples. So much more interesting than just throwing us into the story and us having to figure out who’s who and who’s related to whom. Thanks!
Plus, this couple looks very interesting. I think they would be a challenge to play.
I’m glad you like the format CeeCee =). I know what it’s like to get confused with who’s who and I wanted to make sure everyone gets to know the characters before I started the story.
The best part of fighting is the making up afterwards . . . I seem to recall a certain Duke saying that, if memory serves. But they’ll soon be a cute little couple, hopefully!
Hi Verity! I read something about one of your characters (Cindra) resembling Maud physically but being a jokester, and I was intrigued. So here I am, already shipping the most conflictive pairing. There’s some potential for classic ‘from hatred to love’ romance going on here.
Oh, and did you by any chance read The Briar King? One of the characters there is called Lisbet, I believe.
Hi Maruutsu! Welcome to Mhalwae. I hadn’t thought that much about it but Cindra does look at little like Maud with the hair, though Cindra is definitely a lot pudgier
I haven’t read the Briar King? Is it any good. Maybe I should check it out. I actually got most of the original characters (some more are introduced later) names from a random name generator. I just picked the ones I liked that sounded more medieval.
Ooh, so that’s how it was! It never occurred to me to use a random name generator, but it’s a good idea. Too bad I have already named most of my characters lol.
I actually didn’t like The Briar King very much, I felt it was way too similar to A Song of Ice and Fire, only boring and with flat characters.
