Hehe... once my family and I spent a whole 12 hour plane trip with a basketball team sitting directly behind us. Every time we tried to put back our seats they would scream in pain, so we ended up sitting bolt upright the whole trip. Not so comfy :)

*sheepish grin* I actually caved to facebook too. I have a few friends who won't do myspace. I hear ya on the horizontal scrolling though, it drives me crazy too. I have my prefs set to not start playing the music when I go to a page so I don't have to have it blare at me. I also like the access it's granted me to a couple of my favorite unsigned bands.

I think my problem with plane rides is that I can't sit still, and there's not a lot of room for movement on an airplane. Plus, I always get stuck sitting next to people who sleep the whole trip so I can't get up. I do enjoy the uninterrupted reading time though. :)

Hehe... I finally gave in to facebook as my way of keeping contact. I couldn't go on myspace because it really annoys me when people put stuff on their pages that is too big for the screen in the horizontal direction. I don't like scrolling horizontally. I know this is a weird peeve to have but there you go :). Also sometimes myspace gives me a headache with the amount of flashy stuff and songs that blare at you when you open a page. I like facebook because you can only customise it so far. How terrible am I... wanting to restrict people's creativity, but there you go. I think it is nice that you can personalise myspace but some people take it waaaay to far.

I actually like being on the plane, not being able to do anything. It seems like such a break for me. Nobody can contact me and I can sort of catch up on my sleep... or at least doze for erm... 27 hours or so. I also like the chance to catch up on the new movies since I never go out to the movies anymore. And they feed you interesting things at regular intervals and even though the food is gross I get really excited about what it might be. On the other hand I hate short flights... seems like getting on a much more annoying train. If I am going to go to the bother of getting on a plane I at least want to stay there for a while :)

You're right about the world being much smaller now. That does help. I succumbed to the evil MySpace as a way of keeping in touch with my friends and some family back home. Cups of tea over the webcam. How sweet!

Weeks or months in a wagon, or on a ship to get home. Ouch! I'll never complain about spending 12 hours in a car again! Also makes me rethink my theory that I wouldn't be able to travel to Hawaii or Australia because my ADD self couldn't handle the flight.

Hi Cearbhaill! Welcome to Mhalwae. I'm really glad to see you here :)

I think it is hard moving no matter how far. Maybe it is easier to visit home but 700 miles is still a long way. But I guess when you find the right person you know they are worth moving for. And to be honest... I want to move home too... we are thinking to move back to Australia when I finish my PhD and he finishes his degree.

It is nice that the world is so much smaller now though... it is easier to be living away from home. I can talk to my family and friends back home with skype. I honestly don't know how I would survive without it. My poor mum... when I was leaving she said "but we won't be able to have cups of tea anymore". And I said... "yes we will... we will get webcams"... so now we have cups of tea together anyway :). We are lucky... it really would have sucked being away from home when you could have only written letters. Imagine if the only way you could get home was weeks (months?) in a wagon. And for me for months on a ship. Ack... I will never complain about the long plane trips again :)

Hi Verity, your comment about your priest being a naughty boy himself intrigued me so I thought I'd come check out just how naughty he is. After reading the intro I'm further intrigued to find out what exactly the wrongness that's pervading the island is.

I also wanted to say I have the utmost respect for you. Moving from Australia to Sweden... man. I moved 700 miles from New Jersey to Michigan for my boy and I'd love nothing more than to move home. I don't think I'd have it in me to go as far as you have. It is indeed quite a romantic story.
